Thandi's Story
Go to Lesson 3
Trouble in QinQin
START
In this game you are going to play as a young girl called Thandi. Thandi, comes from a village in Molo, in QinQin. Select the choices that you think Thandi should make. Remember, each of your choices will change the final ending of the story, so be careful and use what you've learnt to make sure Thandi and her family are safe and happy.
LET'S GO
In the long holiday, 7 years ago, Thandi’s aunt came to visit them in Nogino, the small rural village that Thandi and her family stay in. Thandi wondered how life in the big city is. Her aunt always told stories about the schools and how children are able to buy nice clothes and have fancy hairstyles like her own. This year her aunt talked to her parents and asked that Thandi come to live with her in the city and go to the school there as it was a much better school. Thandi had a choice to make, she was excited about the city, but would miss her family. Thandi was now 10 years old and felt ready for the big city life.
Go to the city with Auntie
Stay home with Mum
Although Thandi insisted on staying with Mum, Auntie talked to her parents and they agreed to let Auntie go with her to the city. Auntie got Thandi into school and she really enjoyed it. During the first short school holidays her aunt asked her to help her with the household chores. Thandi liked helping her aunt. When Thandi prepared to go back to school after the holiday, her aunt said that she should just wait a little bit and first help out in the house as the housekeeper did not return from her own holiday
Help out in the house
Refuse & ask to go to school.

Thandi's Mum was shocked. She reported the incident to Thandi's father who in turn told the police and the court what happened. The court refused to take up the case, saying that too much time had gone by since Thandi and other girls were forced to work in the city. Thandi's mother together with an NGO - Let the Children Play, took the case to the African Child Rights’ Charter. The committee first reviewed the communication and saw that everything submitted to them was in order. They then gave the government of QinQin 60 days to give their response to the case. There was a hearing where Thandi and some of the children went to discuss their problems.
